• I have long hoped that someone would start a good website for sharing mix tapes. The Art of the Mix is just that, except it has 63519 individual mixes currently available, rather more than I ever dreamed of.
• I figured it might be possible to use the Google news aggregator service as a tool to auto-generate a list of the news that isn’t being covered in the US media. While newsmap doesn’t do exactly that, it does do enormously more, generating realtime infoporn presenting in graphic form the news stories appearing in Google news’ 10 regional formats, sized according to the amount of coverage being received.
• and finally, while I whine about how something should be done to fight the for-profit-for-no-reason publishing of scientific research, someone else is out there doing something about it. In fact, many people are, they call themselves the “open access” movement, and there is even a news site (called, appropriately “Open Access News“) dedicated entirely to updates and information. Looks like I just joined a new movement. Glory be!
