Some day I would like to write a blog entry detailing what this image is, how it was generated and what the implications are.

For now, I’ll say that it’s generated from spectral satellite imagery of south Asia, that the x axis is the Normalized Differential Water Index of pixels taken from a dry season image of that area, that the y axis is the NDVI of pixels from a wet season image, and that the colours are an indication of the density of pixels falling within a given region of the graph. And that this region:

is an example of why it’s hard to make maps of dry deciduous forest in south Asia using spectral satellite imagery.

Hopefully, sometime soon, I will be able to post a reasonably accurate map of dry deciduous forest in south Asia. I’m not beaten yet.
