Oaxaca

Oaxaca has fallen out of the news. I assumed this was because the situation had cooled down. Apparently the opposite is true. Since riot police entered the city there has been ongoing violence and conflict as well as peaceful protest. The 25th (last Saturday) was reportedly particularly bad, and now the government has announced that there will be an increase in intensity to end the resistance by December 1st. This is being described by some residents as “low intensity warfare”.

English-language reports, such as this one, are available on the Indymedia main page. Spanish-language reports are on the Oaxaca Indymedia page.

There is an english-language transcript associated in some way with Radio APPO here.

Radio APPO is apparently acting as a central information clearing house in the city (shades of La Luna in Quito). Their (spanish) internet feed is here.

There are reported to be 4 different armed groups operating in Oaxaca City at the moment, PRI backed paramilitaries, the Federal Preventative Police (PFP), the state police and the Federal Investigative Police (AFI). PRI radio stations have been provoking attacks by broadcasting the streets and neighborhoods where demonstrators were hiding

There are uploaded videos from news and personal recordings on youtube.
