In 2001 I volunteered at Reserva Los Cedros, a non-profit conservation preserve in the cloud forest of the Ecuadorean Andes. The reserve lacked a website so I built one on-site.
In 2007 I rebuilt the site using the open-source Wordpress online publishing system. Wordpress was originally made for blogging, but has become an effective content management system for general web publishing. Unlike some dedicated CMS packages, Wordpress is both flexible enough for moderately substantive websites and simple enough that non-technical users can add and manage content.
The new site includes a blog, an embedded gallery2 photo gallery, dynamic maps, and support for multiple translations of the content. I developed a custom template for the site’s layout and appearance.
I oversee hosting and administration for the site, and do minor administration for the Reserve’s google-based email system. I’ve also begun developing some baseline GIS map resources for the reserve.
